I take it all back

A Cadaques cat fro Kimberley and Ginny
Dali!s House

Cadaques is really a VERY nice place after all – Friday when we arrived was overcast and soon the rain was bucketing down. We aren’t staying in the best part of town and there are lots of things that could do with having my sister visit for a few months to lick them into shape. BUT when the sun came out on Saturday and we found some rather nice places it all looked much more like the picture postcards.
We found a very nice little restaurant from our guide book and have eaten lunch there twice – we have decided its better to eat out at lunchtime and have light picnic meal in the evening - sitting down to a main meal at 9pm that sometimes didn’t finish till 10.30 just wasn’t working for us. I don’t know how they do it – often there are little children in restaurants well after 10pm.
The artist, Salvador Dali holidayed in Cadaques as a child and lived in the next town for 50 years – he converted a row of fishing cottages into a sizeable house and studio which we visited today. Lovely house – strange man – odd art (not to my taste). Lots of stuffed birds esp swans and animals in the house which I find grotesque. A bit like Puccini’s house in Italy – he was a keen hunter and had a huge collection of stuffed animals in his house – YUK!!!
Yesterday we went to a wedding by mistake. Phil was keen to see the church in Cadaques so I said I would meet him inside as soon as I’d picked up a fresh bagette and some tomatoes, olives and fruit. When I arrived at the door 10 minutes later, Phil was nowhere to be seen amongst the throng of white clad guests pouring out from a wedding – it seems that not only the bride and groom wear white but all the guests as well. Ten minutes later I located Phil sitting on a wall happily watching the action.
We’ve done some great coastal walks – not too long – just a couple of hours each. Also drove down the coast into Roses – a big beach resort town about 20 kms away. The best restaurant in the world, El Bulli, is on cliffs on the outskirts. I’m sure the food is great but we won’t get to try it.
Monday we drive into France to stay at St Hillaire, outside of Carassonne for the next week.
